PEDAL POWER PT 2 (THA CONCLUSION) ON PULSE.PH

April 11, 2011

Here’s the concluding part of my piece on some of the top DIY pedal makers in the country. Much gratitude to Pulse EIC Aldus Santos and photog Paolo Seen who came with me to snap the craftsmen.

STOMPOGRAPHY (PART 2 OF 2): SUB-ZERO GUITAR FX,

Neil had just finished a run of Muziklaban with his band Second Squad.

He’s exhausted not only because of the stress caused by the contest (where they won a People’s Choice Award) but because, prior to that, he had to finish six pedals before he came down to Manila. Neil (also known by his moniker “Neil Squadron”), you see, is based in Baguio, and his line of pedals called Sub-Zero FX reflects the “chill” of his hometown.

Neil from up north, way up north

Unlike Liptone who has an engineering degree, Neil was a commerce major in St. Louis University whose hobby was tinkering with electronics. Especially the wiring of guitars. Like our previous subject, though, he was also prompted to make his own pedals because he couldn’t afford the expensive analog ones.
